FBreader - jumps to end of book
« on: August 16, 2009, 12:00:16 PM »
Has anyone else experienced this odd behaviour by FBReader?
Whlst reading a page it occasionally jumps to the end of the book, and also occasionaly fails to respond to [Fn]+[Page Down] key strokes.

It seems to happen more frequently with longer boks (120+ pages) and once it happens it tends to recur more frequently within that book session.  It doed tees not seem to be relatedto the format of the book.  I have had the problem on mobi, txt, html and zipped txt fies.

Has anyone found another book reader for the original image?

Have not encountered that. Currently reading a 490 page ebook with no issues under 3MX-rc3.1. However 3.1 has a newer version of fbreader than default/retro/1.1 have and it has more options, like the ability to rotate the screen. Nice feature as it lets you hold the laptop like a book.

Cheers.

Wicknix.  Is it possible to install the newer FB reader on the Retro image?

Short answer, no. The software and libraries are too old. 3MX-rc3.1 was built with newer versions of software and libraries. What it gives up in speed is made up by newer and more software.

Cheers.

Thank you for your response.  I understand about the libraries, but what software do you mean? Kernel?
I ask because on linux satellite TV boxes we use chroot and temporary libpath change commands to run some software.

No, software. Like newer versions of abiword, fbreader, xchat, iceweasel (browser based on firefox but it isn't old like bonecho's 2007 build), etc etc.
