Kernel version: 2.6.24.3 on ingenic.cn
« on: May 18, 2009, 07:57:36 PM »
Just seen some new files added on the Ingenic site with a date of 6 May 09

http://www.ingenic.cn/eng/productServ/kfyd/Linux/pfCustomPage.aspx

I did a quick search of the forum and couldn't find anything else on this so thought it worth mentioning; seems to have a few extra things including a Bluetooth driver.

I see in the changelogs mentions of a couple of tools to alter the bootloader, but I have no idea what they are.

Quote
Then burn the u-boot-nand.bin (for NAND flash) or u-boot.bin (for NOR flash)
to the target board by using JDI or USB boot tool.

The changelog on the kernel doesn't mention how it is "installed" on the drive.

Seems interesting though..

The kernel is in a dedicated mtd block. Have a look with 'cat /proc/mtd'. You can boot another kernel from SD card. Have a look here.

I see the following in the kernel build helpfile
Quote
Make defconfig of the JZSOC based platform, eg:

$ make cetus_defconfig   (JZ4755 based CETUS board)
or
$ make apus_defconfig   (JZ4750 based APUS board)
or
$ make pavo_defconfig   (JZ4740 based PAVO board)
or
$ make pmp_defconfig   (JZ4730 based PMP board)
How do I know which one I have?  I did a dmesg | grep JZ but it's not showing in the kernel log...

Well, you could open it - Ard already did it.
There you also find instructions on how to compile the kernel and information about the 2.6 kernel.

Ya I know.  I was wondering if there was a less "intrusive" method  :D

Anyway found it with the reference of my laptop.  it's a INOS1B, and apparently is using a JZ4730, according to most pages on google I found.

For compilation of the kernel, I'm not starting with Ard's tutorial, but trying to go from the sources listed in the page at the beginning of this thread (and the guide that comes with it)

Will keep y'all posted.  Hope I don't "brick" that laptop, I've only had it for a week  ;D

YIKES  :-[

I made a uimage, stored it to the flash, and booted with fn, left ctrl and left shift, as I saw on Ard's website.  Got a white screen, nothing more.  Since then, the thing won't boot and is showing rainbow lines on the screen :'(

I downloaded Ard's image, and I'm trying to boot on his.  Looks like my kernel ain't working well yet :-/

EDIT: Beware.  FN+left Ctrl+Left Shift updated the kernel on my NAND!  I pulled the SD card out, and it's still booting on Ard's kernel :s

EDIT2: Dammit!  Looks like the source doesn't include the framebuffer driver for the 800x480 LCD panel this netbook has, which is what is causing rainbows at startup >:(
