Mobile as modem (GPRS)
« on: January 13, 2009, 03:24:47 PM »
Hi
I'm thinking of buying an Elonex One T and want to know if anyone has added the necessary to enable my mobile to connect via the USB and act as a modem for GPRS. It's pretty straightforward with windows as Sony Ericcson provide the software.
I'm new to Linux but fairly computer literate

Regards

I'd like to know if anyone has managed this also.

I tried the mobile connection app, but was unsuccessful, it kept telling me the link was down, even with the right information from the phone.

After trying the xenium distro,  I went back the CnM distro with the recovery image and it now doesn't even recognise the phone being connected.

It's the only thing that doesn't work properly since recovering.

Is GPRS/mobile phone as modem part of the pre-installed software?

It's still the same software as when I first used it, just this time it seems to insist that there is no usb modem connected. Previously the dialog would show asking if I was using gprs and another option, of which I forget.

So is it possible then can you use it with a mobile phone as a modem?

Cheers

It should in theory be possible, before I had problems with it, the app asked me what kind of connection I was using.

It seems that I needed to connect my phone to my windows machine and use pc suite to install something onto the phone.

I contacted CnM, to find out if this could be done or if they could help.

They said

this combination cannot be used. The software is for a usb modem only.

I'm now going to look for information in regards to linux and mobiles as modems.
