Title: Messy
Post by: PeteMRU on August 20, 2009, 09:13:39 AM
well.

My first post.  I've had now my Cnm Notebook for about 4 months and all is well !. I do get what I paid for. The question is, Why is the thing so messy. Icons go all over the place. An interesting thing is I spent all day putting on some stuff then just could not see them.. Until I found that they were there only you had to go down the screen. But why were they not in the blank spaces, Messy.

And why is the location of icons irrational?  Xterm on internet tab, software installer in games.

you may change the locations of the icons, rearrange them the way you'd like to.

HI.

But you thank him.. I take it you did not try it then....  Can you or anyone tell me what editor we should be using to do all this stuff in. Think best move on. I did say I had no problems with my CnM BOOK. Well I do have a problem.. I've just tried the Video Online, it loads in but when I load a vid to play it just shuts down. Am I missing a "patch".

To poke about in the command line and edit stuff, load up Xterm and Nedit. They're available from the Little Linux Laptop (http://www.littlelinuxlaptop.com/software.htm) site.

For VOL, I find you have to mark a file as a Favourite, then go into Favourites to play it, otherwise it craps out in the way you describe.

Alternatively load xterm and Midnight Commander.  Then use F4 from MC to edit files.  The advantage is that you view/edit from within the file manager so is much quicker.

Hi

Now we are cooking with gas. Yes the VOL is now a runner. thanks.  Now to play with xterm. What is now needed is some basic comands to get me going. I would like to sort out the Icons, I take it they are sorted in xterm....

Hi

Well that's the IP-RADIO sorted.  All it needs now is UK stations. Come on now this bit really is screaming to be sorted. Only need radio 2 and sport. Not too much to ask!..or is it.

This thread (http://linuxlaptopforum.ark2webdesign.co.uk/index.php/topic,249.0.html) is your friend.

1. Surf to shoutcast.com to find the stations.
2. Edit /share/ipradio/data/setup.data to set the default stations.
3. ?????
4. Profit !!!

Right, OK..

Getting up to speed. First thanks "utd_grant" a shining light ...

Edit is the problem. I can now see what I need to do but not how to do it.  I've got Xterm and Nedit.  I entered "edit /share/..... in Xterm, it says cannot do edit. I've entered the same in Nedit and sits looking at me....

Show some light its surly not the dark arts....

Forget Nedit!  Open an xterm session and type mc [enter] to start Midnight Commnder.  Wait until you get a twin panel file manager and then use cursor keys to highlight the file.  F3 to view, F4 to edit.

hi.

OK  Thanks for that "Jenux"  I was using Nedit and have sorted out my Icons (I'll come back to that) I do see what you mean though. So will now use Xterm.

The Icons... Icons are numbered Top left = 0 going across the screen   0, 1, 2, 3, 4 next row 5, 6, 7. 8, 9 and so on..   For the placing of icons its best just to put a ash on the beginning of "ItemIndex"..  So it looks like "#ItemIndex=1 . Best fined the ones that are pre set then fill in the blanks . Best not to remove the line as you may need it back as SOME ICONS are pre placed and will not move for you. You will then mess up the screen.

I have a blank in Games but It will not let me put anything in it !. So something is "unseen".

hi.

OK . That's the placing of Icons sorted. Think the blank places were just being Steuben..All are now in the right tags and places.

Thank you all...
