Title: CnMbook automatic time/date synchronisation
Post by: marko on July 12, 2009, 09:59:53 AM
Throughout the forums there are several references to problems with the date and time slipping once the minibooks are powered up and down. It has been suggested that this might be due to a backup battery problem, but problems are being identified on brand new machines so that would seem to be a little strange. Also, anyone attempting to change the cell will need to dismantle virtually the whole unit, a huge waste of time if the problems were to continue with a replacement cell. Also, the following advice is provided in the CnM lifestyle FAQs for the minibook: Why has my clock setting changed? If the CnMBook runs out of battery power and isn't connected to the mains, the time setting stored in the clock will be lost because this needs a trickle charge to be retained.'
Perhaps these units will always have time/date problems.

Once connected to the net, If the unit could automatically update time and date settings by synchronising with the atomic clock (or alternative time server) issues with the battery problem could be ignored. Sadly, I can find no Firefox2 addons that will do the job. Can anyone help?

you could add a call to ntpdate after setting up wifi. bit of a clunky fix but it'll work
