Title: Overclocking
Post by: mewtwo on May 25, 2009, 09:41:41 PM
The Dingoo guys provide a overclocking application (http://a320.freeforums.org/a-320-overclocking-application-t57.html) which can push the CPU up to 430MHz - unfortunately, it's no a linux binary, but the source comes with it.

That way lies madness. Just accept the fact that you've got a cheap, relatively slow machine.

Madness is sometimes what that little machine can induce...  :D

Would it be worth investigating though? It could make a hellova differance. If i knew how, it would try it, but i don't. I can see where Utd_Grant is comming from though.

It work also with the Cnm?

How it work?
I don't think that it will enable something by bios...what file i must run?
i have to use some commands?

Have you had any luck? 100MHZ might not seem like a lot, when when were talking a third of our processing power added, its quite significant.

Power consumption is proportional to the square of the clock speed, as is heat to dissipate.  But I understand that the processor is a 400Mhz run at 330Mhz to conserve battery time.  Are we missing a trick here.  The battery monitor automatically shows when the box is mains attached so a trigger to switch to 400Mhz when attached should be simple.

How do we do that then?

Step one: identify the code used to monitor the battery level
Step two: obtain the source
Step three: identify the mechanism used to under-clock ( several are published)
Step four: embed calls to speed up when mains is detected and slow down when on battery.
Step 5: recompile

Chuckle! Equally as off topic is this:

Step three was easier than I thought, now to find a way of flagging when plugged in to the mains.

I *think* /dev/MiniPC has something to do with it.

Been doing some research on this little mips netbook. the cpu and fsb are likely the ones i highlighted here.

Hi all
been following this and my thoughts are is really overclocking when all were trying to do is to get the
processor to run at normal 400mhz.

well,in this version the meercat didnt say "simples" ...anyway,what happened to this thread? we can do a lotta thing with this netbook, but the real benefit the overclocking could be.
