Mail Error
« on: September 24, 2008, 08:02:09 PM »
Hi,

Newbie here (both ONEt+ and Linux) so bear with me....

When I try to send a mail I get a 501 error, any ideas on how to cure? Imap4 account smtp reply.

Also, there is a Linux version of Thunderbird available, will it work with the ONEt+?

Be patient with me, there's more of these dumb questions coming in the next few days/weeks/months/years.

Cheers

Kol

Hi,

Cured the mail error by choosing gmail smtp as my sending server (have the original problem with Virginmedia (blueyonder.co.uk)). I can live with the change but I want to find out why the blueyonder server doesn't work....

Other question remains - anybody got any info on Thunderbird availability?

Cheers

it should be possible to compile, might be worth extracting the debian mipsel package and seeing if it works but is rather unlikely

Be careful of the  libraries version when doing this.....You may end up in replacing most of the libraries just clearing out the incompatability.

The mipsel version of Etch (debian v4.0) is at least a year younger then the software on the ONEt, presently.

Hi peoples,

Thanx for the responses - compiling and library talk frighten the life out of me   ;D

I'll go trawl round the net for info on t/bird and 'mipsel'????

For info - some suggestions indicate that VM servers are refusing my posts due to not having a 'valid' hostname. I looked using midnight commander/Xterm and it looks as tho' I haven't got any hostname anyway! I'll have a look at this over the weekend and try again.

Cheers
