Ard's Kernel and Skytex LLL

Odd thing: using a brand new Skytex (w/ ralink wifi) and Ard's fine kernel produces a weird, rolling flicker on the screen.  This refresh problem happens only when backlight is reduced from full blast and only then w/ dark colors.  When I switch the desktop background to lighter color, reduced backlight, then no flicker.  Any white background in apps--Abiword, spreadsheet, etc.--is fine.

Is this fixable?  Some handle to jiggle?
