Mounting a USB memory stick ...
« on: May 04, 2010, 07:55:57 PM »
Hello

This question has probably been answered somewhere but I can't for the life of me find a thread about it ...  :-[

If I plug a USB memory stick in whilst my OneT is running 3MX-Ultra, should it auto mount or do I have to reboot for it to be recognised, please?  Mine doesn't auto-mount and I am wondering if I am asking for something that Ultra does not do.

Thanks

Regards

Paul

Hello,

I have no problems automounting both a 4gb and 8gb USB stick on 3MXUltra2.
I think you should still unmount manually from the Menu though.
You should make sure they are formatted to FAT 16 or FAT 32.

Hope this helps,

Cheers :)

Hi Hugh

Thanks for the reply ...

I sometimes use my OneT as an MP3 player and have found that, unless I have inserted the USB stick (2 GB) at boot-up, when I go searching for it, or even if I click on the USB icon on the desktop, it cannot be found.

I am running 3MX Ultra version 1 (I loaded it back in December 2009).  Has Ultra 2 fixed this as a known problem or is there something odd about my set-up I wonder?

I definitely remember auto mounting works with Default OS, and to show what a clever dick I am I've just automounted a 4 and an 8gb stick both together in 3MXUltra2.
So you you not be having any troubles in 3MXUltra1.

Maybe someone with better knowledge will come along with some ideas.

Cheers :)

Hi Hugh

Thanks for the reply ...

Maybe I am doing something wrong or maybe what I have been doing before - usually chatting on Messaging - interferes with the auto-mounting.  I will try booting the box, and then plugging the USB stick in before I run anything else and see if that works.

Hi again ...

Yes, you are quite right ... it does mount the USB stick quite seamlessly.  I can only assume that, on the occasions it didn't work for me, something I had been doing beforehand had prevented auto-mounting .

Sorry for starting this thread unnecessarily ...  :-[.  I should have known better than to doubt 3MX ...  ;D

Thanks again for the info, Hugh.

No problem, I've only had my netbook a couple of weeks and already had to re-install (luckily I learnt how to do a working backup image before I managed to screw it up)

Cheers :)
