3MX control panel, Auto-add to start menu. on install!!
« on: March 20, 2010, 09:45:21 AM »
I've been messing around in Glade on a suite of gtk applications that provide a user friendly configuration interface for things such as changing the properties of JDM, Which we know also edit's the menu. There's lots of files out there to be configured, So I've been busy.....I've also got a list of hardware mods I wanna do....but I don't want to ruin everything i've put in so far by changing the damn thing around. Now besides providing a interface from which people can edit the menu, It's also QUITE possible to auto-add things as they are installed. We need a benchmarking thread.......

Few questions if anybody out there knows.......

Why was JWM choosen over IceWM? We're they ever benchmarked against one another?

Why does 3mX not have VLC or cron or apt , apt-get, make , the c++ compiler ...ect?

I'm also looking to buy a few used, working, LLL's (Mips 400 versions for now) So I can continue to work off a pure LLL, This way the patches will go down smoother. I've already ordered in bulk some 7' touch sensors,8gig microSD cards, Micro readers for them... usb hub "wire-harnesses,USB Dongles .....for everything under the sun...(GPS,QUADBAND 3g,BLUETOOTH 2.0 w/ wi-fi, a powerful  wi-fi adapter with a external antennas can hookup, A nice set of wi-fi external antennas, enouggh 14v solar cells to produce (At most) 2500mWs of a 9v current, the other 5 volts is diverted to help the hub from overheating and failing. so yah, big plans in the works. Espically since we all know that wont fit in the LLL's casing as it is now.....That's where the fun part comes in!!
So yes, decent conditioned, unmodified LLL's , im buying, 45 bucks plus shipping....The sooner I get one, The more I Can focus on making gdk widgets, and pretty pictures.  ;)

was JWM ever "optimized" visually to work at peak performance?

update: When I ment about the graphics was, A WM uses alot of cpu power to render transparency, it also uses power to shrink icons out of recognition.
It alsoooooooo uses power to read a 24 bit PNG file..........The images are also sloppy...a perfectly symmetrical icon, with a preset background, and made using no more than 5-6 colors. can make for a attractive OS. I like 5 colors because in my  experience, you only have 5 major component styles to color, You'll reuse those 5 maybe 2 times in the whole window theme. and yes.......It is possible to make sharp perfect images for everything that needs them, using just the 5 colors. And for christ sakes, We're looking at SCALED down versions of the icons, We dont need 32x32 sized icons, anywhere. Icon size has to match. Also there's this option in JWM to "Show outline of window while dragging" by changing the property from "opaque" to "outline" ....Every noobs mom knows you never show windows contents while dragging, You might think I sound ungrateful, or am nitpicking, But I choose this distro because the community respects it's creator's choice not to build off debian, And being he's the only guy working on the distro that i know of.....he knows the most , and i'll trust his judgement and throw my hat in his corner for the which OS is best debate, And work off his distro in my project.
