Bitlbee (alternative messenger)
« on: November 02, 2009, 05:02:05 AM »
Ok, so right after i released 4.0 Yahoo decided to change their protocol once again. Meaning that yahoo messenger no longer works with the defaultOS/retro/1.1/1.2's pidgin nor does it work with 3.1/4.0's ayttm, centerim, or bitlbee. So i rebuilt the freshly released version of bitlbee (1.2.4) which fixes that. Oddly enough it works on rc1.2 (as it does also on 3.1/4.0) and it may even work on the default OS (not tested).

Download here:

http://hostwork.com/users/matt/alpha400/packages/bitlbee-1.2.4-R3-01(20091031).xap

To use it type in xterm: /sbin/bitlbee -D & (or create a menu entry for it)
Then open any irc client (xchat, bitchx, irssi, etc) and connect to /server 127.0.0.1 and follow the built in instructions to set up your accounts (jabber, aol, icq, msn and yahoo supported).

If you don't know what bitlbee is, its an IRC to IM gateway. Basically it lets you instant message popular messengers through an irc client. More info found at http://www.bitlbee.org

Cheers.
