ActiveSync cable - what is it ;)
« on: October 23, 2009, 09:03:45 AM »
Hello ALL!!!

I was wondering if anyone has performed this operation... http://194.150.201.35/cnmlifestyle/cnmbook/CnMNB7SEfirmware.htm

I am wondering what is this ActiveSync cable? Has anyine seen it? Is there something special about it? Where can I buy one?

Can their regular Linux based system be flashed with WinCE?

Thank you,
Roman

Normally an ActiveSync cable is just an USB cable. In this case I suppose it's a USB A-A male-male cable. I don't think this will work on a Linux Laptop.

No. Their WinCE laptops run on an ARM processor, while the Linux laptops use a MIPS. The OS can't be exchanged.

That's true. However, theoretically, it is possible to create a working Windows CE enviroment for the Ingenic Jz4730 MIPS CPU in the TrendTac. If anyone's planning to do so, I'd suggest to keep in mind that you can only install applications for MIPS, only files in the "My Documents" folder are saved after a reboot, there's a lot less things you can customize, and you are - strictly spoken - illegal.

So in fact you must be happy to have a Linux version ;)

Oh, yes, about the ActiveSync cable, I think the people who have build-in their WiFi-dongle in the TrendTac, have used this port ;)
