Is there anyway to make a Huawei E156G work with a CNMbook ?

Please help me out guy's, i'm really at the end of my tether with my CNMbook.

Firstly, i bought the cnm minibook and spent the best part of a week trying to get on the net with it, only to find that due to me having a virgin/ntl ethernet cable connection i cannot get internet access through my connection as virgin don't support linux.

Because of this i bought a 3 Huawei E156G mobile broadband and for the life of me cannot get it to connect to the internet either. I've registered it, put credit on it and tried it out on an acer laptop so i know it's working, it just won't work on the minibook.

I've got v70 installed, tried the installation guide, installed the E220 modem... but still nothing. I've read this forum for over a week but there isn't much info regarding the E156G

My partner and i bought this minibook because money's tight and we don't have much to spend, any help on getting this minibook online would be greatly appreciated.

I dont think it has anything to do with virginmedia.I got Virgin too.And other 1000s people too,I believe.There is a solution somewhere in the forum,you will need to set it up on a windows machine first though.

I know there is a application called modeswitch.

When a Huawei modem is inserted it loads a read-only Mass Storage Device, if the drivers are detected  (in Windows) the moden device is activated!!

Modeswitch  activates the Modem device but need st be compiled.

I have compiled it once B4, but have no Dongle to test it with.

I suggest using the Etch OS!!

Does your Virginmedia ADSL connection work with any other computer?  It shouldn't make any difference to the ISP what OS you want to use - but the call-centre droids may not have a script for anything but recent versions of Windows, which is what they mean by "support".  You shouldn't need to use any special software from the ISP.

Are you connecting the CnMbook directly to the incoming DSL wall socket, or to a 'modem' supplied by the ISP, or to a router?  If the latter, are you using a wired ethernet connection or wireless?

Can I ask a silly question? Your first post spoke of not getting the ethernet connection to work. I had the same problem until I realised I needed the fat 8 pin RJ-45 / Cat-5 cable - not the skinny 4 pin sort of one that connects the modem to the BT socket. After ages wasting time with the wrong one I just plugged the correct one in - no setup - works a treat!

Im with Virgin and have the 2meg service.

I can connect my LLL To my Scientific Atlanta cable modem with no problems!!.

I wouldnt advise people to do this as it give ur PC / LLL a PUBLIC IP Address 93.152.29.226 not a LOCAL one 192.168.1.2

If you attach a Wifi Router to your Cable Modem you should be up & running.

return in a command prompt after you've connected the 156?
