That sticky CnM label !
« on: June 03, 2009, 08:02:31 PM »
A silly question, but has anyone found a way of getting that darned CnM label to stick on the Minibook lid? So many glues are solvent based that I'm scared to try...

I used UHU, its a transparent Contact adhesive from £land.

With contact adhesive, you put a little on each surface allow it to dry a bit (become tacky to touch), then firmly hold them together! (Any access can be cleaned away one it had dried!!!)

You could also use Super glue  ??? (A tiny amount in the recess of the LLL lid)

Hope this helps

I gave up and just let it fall off, after it had got itself trapped in between the pages of a book in the same bag.  The enigmatic recess in the lid is just as aesthetically pleasing in my opion.

I feel left out not having this 'aesthetically pleasing enigmatic recess' - as mine is a true-blue Elonex (it's silver actually). BUT! I do have what looks like a small mouse on the top cover, in fact I thought it WAS a detachable mouse at first!  :D

Thanks for all that - you really are a great bunch - and humorous too! ;)

Glad to be back in the fold. After an initial bad experience with a corrupted 'grade B' model from Maplin I bought an Aspire, but their forum is pretty useless. Fortunately I picked up a 'new' CnM on eBay at a knock down price and now I'm back with people who know what they are talking about!

I have the same as Unh. I did have a recess on my old elonex, but we had to get it replaced. :( Now if only superglue or UHU would sort out that god damned charging slot... ::)

Well i had the same problem my cnm label came off in my bag and smudged some glue stuff all over its lovely piano black finish now it looks as crap as the functionality until i gave it a makeover with an ubuntu sticker.

ps. my friend asked me if he should get one as he and myself are huge linux fans but i said neh dont waste you cash man.

While we are talking about bits of trim falling off it could be worth turning the machine over.  It is supposed to have a label on the back with the serial number, but on mine the print and barcode have worn to the point of illegibility in under a fortnights use.  So if you can still read yours then write them down.
The CnM website lists different recovery files depending on the first three characters of the serial number so you do need it.

Damn! That enigmatic little label has just fallen off again!
- the UHU only worked for a little over three months
- and it was a devil of a job to get the excess glue off the piano finish
Now to see if superglue lasts any longer...
Any suggestions as to which brand I should use?

Araldite takes a long time to set, but once it's stuck there's no un-sticking it ! It'd be my long-term solution.
