Running Damn small linux?
« on: April 18, 2009, 12:25:46 AM »
Damn small linux uses debian 2.4 core, would it not be possible to strip out the OEM core and install DSL over the top of it minus unnecessary applications (floppy disc support, grub etc) and include the standard wifi and 3g drivers from 3mx rc1.1 etc?
Just a thought as DSL is only 50mb and features cross compatible small footprint applications and a really good GUI.

Not possible. DSL was built for x86 architecture. Our minibooks are mipsel architecture. 2 completely different cpu types.

As for only being 50 meg thats sort of a gray area. Sure the download is 50 meg, but they use some form of compression that crams everything into a small foot print, then expands applications to ram when needed. Knoppix for instance is a 650 meg download but holds 2+ gig worth of software.

Cheers.
