bricked?
« on: September 06, 2008, 01:45:08 PM »
I got this laptop for my daughter and was a little suprised with the software, elonex say this laptop is aimed at children but there is a lack of games and educational software, or much choice of theme colours etc.
I have been unable to connect via wifi although it shows i am connected but says ip address not valid. A bit annoying as I was able to set up connections for two other laptops, an eeepc, my N95 and even the wii with no problems. Anyway my daughter brought it back last night and the battery was dead so we plugged in the mains adapter on switching on the unit the splash screen appears and nothing else the unit refuses to boot, also after leaving it on charge overnight the battery was still dead!
If you hold CTRL, ALT and F3 after you switch on you enter  recovery mode where you can insert an sd card/usb stick with the recovery image file and recover the unit. However the correct file is unavailable for download at the elonex support pages and the unit does not find any of the other image files that i can download.(e-mailed elonex). Iv'e reboxed it at the moment hoping i can find or think of a solution I hope I'm not left with a brick . ???

I've noticed that the laptop seems to die at the drop of a hat - but there's what i assume is a reset button on the back - a small "hole".

If you hold the power button in and with a toothpick - press the reset button - the laptop boots up.

Not ideal i admit - but it works - until Elonex provide a fix.

I had a funny last night when I had 25% bettery (sic!) life left. It was running fine, then I got the Elonex screen which went into weird and wonderful colours, running across it diagonally, really psychodelical (sp?). I thought this is great, an added bonus with the Elonex! Then it went back to the desktop screen and carried on fine!

I can only admit to a few glasses of vodka... nothing else  :o

Perhaps the bettery connection?

David.

Just called their "Tech Support" line 0871 9029690  to be told the issue regarding the power up problem is a hardware fault and that i should return it for a replacement...

I'll call the DSL shop/distributer later and see what they say.

My "brand spanking new" Elonex One T+  has just been picked up by Interlink Express - DEAD !!

The reset slot on the back even fails to breathe life info it ..

I spoke to Elonex this morning and they arranged for it to be picked up 3 hours or so later. So far  - their customer service has been good - lets see if the after sales service lives up to expectations... !!

Elonex called to say they had tested  my oneT+  - and found no problems... I'll see when it comes back from them.

Any more power problems and i'll take a refund and go elsewhere.

everything fine all up and running again! got fed up waiting so i took it out of the box for one last try,
Had to reset using the recovery image at www.trendtac.nl. slightly different layout but it will do untill elonex put up a working link for the original image file.
removed battery cover and checked the connector and hey presto battery charging ok.
not set up wifi as of yet going to play with my router channels first before i try it on wep settings.
hoping to get bluetooth working next

I've tried to restore mine with the trendtac file with no luck. Can you tell me exactly what you did to check I'm doing it correctly.

Much appreciated

right after you switch on and the black screen appears press and hold ctrl+alt +f3  a screen telling you your mac address appears
just follow the instructions put in your sd card with the two files on it ( i just kept hitting return and let it format)
after a while it will reboot itself.
