3MX-rc2.1 now available
« on: March 15, 2009, 01:57:39 AM »
Yep, just as the topic says.. rc2.1 is now available. There are too many changes and additions to list, so i wont.  :P
2 old issues still remain. Printing still doesn't work, and WPA is untested, but i assume that it didn't magically fix itself. Other than that, keyboard dropping fn/shift fixed, new games, new look, and more.

Note: As with last time, the first bootup will be kinda slow as the fonts have to build cache. Just wait a minute or 2 and the desktop will start. Again with firefox also. Start it and wait, and wait, and wait as firefox registers itself. Reboot. Everything should be normal now.

Thats it. I feel rc1.1 is quite stable and usable, and rc2.1 is now also, so i'm taking a break. I wont release any new recovery images for quite awhile now. So go ahead and use whichever works best for you and tweak it to be your own.

Cheers Wicknix!!  :D ;D :D

Looks great:

Have a few Questions!!

How can u use the GPRS modem?
I have a Blackberry Curve 8310 (it can be used as a modem but never used it before)

Also

Is it possible to get back the Desktop Icons?
I gather that it it was linked with pcmanfm as that was the command used to enable desktop icon in RC2

-------------------------------------

I have had a bit of progress with the WM docklets:i have added wmnet to monitor my Ethernet connection and have added it to the Swallow bar but in order to view it i have to run the command"wmnet" from the runbox!!

Yes you can use your cell phone as a gprs/edge/3g modem now. I'd suggest having an unlimited data plan through your carrier though so you don't get charged per kilobyte. Small section in the HELP file about it.  ;)

I eliminated desktop icons ( yes they were handled by pcmanfm ) because they seemed unstable and pcmanfm had issues as a file manager. So i removed it. Also that was one more application running to suck up resources. It just made more sense to create icon 'trays' in jwm instead. I suppose if you still wanted to you could reinstall pcmanfm. I used the version from mipsel debian lenny. All the required files needed to run it are still in rc2.1.

Cheers.

monoreille >> thank you for reply, however you didn't answer my question. I was asking - what program should I use to put img onto SD card?

In act of desperation I just copied img file onto SD card, pressed Shift + Fn + F1 when minibook was booting - nothing. Tried Fn + right shift - nothing.. Aghhhhh!

If you have windows drag and drop to ur SD Card / USB
Insert the SD Card / USB
Reboot the LLL
Hold down F3 Till u see a black screen with your MAC Address

you have to push the F3-key to update the OS (Fn-Shift-F1 is for Kernel-updating!)

Thank you for reply. At last I get to recovery menu, but my minibook cannot see recovery file on SD card.

I prepared SD card like that:
Windows - right click - format - FAT - format. Completed.
Drag'n'drop file Recovery_3MX-rc2.1.img onto SD card. That's the only file on the card.

Any ideas, what do I do wrong?

Thank you for help, I've hecked description of using recovery disk and it's the same, so should be ok. However I'm still getting info, that recovery files couldn't be found od SD card (tried with original recovery files - the same result).
Maybe something is wrong with SD card (format, or something, checked on two cards - the same result).

EDIT
Solved. The reason was bad card formatting - checked under original OS on minibook - handheld wasn't able to read SD card. I solved that using .. Nikon D80 camera to format SD card. After that card was seen under original minibook's OS. Then drag'n'drop, shiftl+fn+shiftr, etc.

Thank you all for useful and quick resnponds.

wicknix >> keep up the good work!

EDIT
I suggest to cut my problem to separate topic, as it's not directly connected with 3MX-rc2

I dont quite know where to post this and i dont have accsess to IRC at school so it will go here.

Wick, when i made the themes i used the Image Editor for getting the Hex colour code. The GTK colour wheel mainly. But it has been removed and now there is no image editor or colour wheel... any reason? Does any one have an idea on how to get the colour wheel and image editor back? because they are vital for making the 16X16 images for the new icons i plan on doing at some point. But the rest is great and i LOVE dillo. My sister despairs at RC2.1's internet but Dillo is like having a wired broadband. If a little on the content light side but hey! thats what FF3 is for! XD
"Wow baby i was booorn! With a fast fuuuuse!"
"I wanna go fast!"
"Tango With Added Tango... You've been Tango'd!"

This has been my first experiance with linux, the LLL. Now i have installed it on the laptop that came with M$.!
