USB Hard Disk Drives

I presume having hardware categorized per type in different topics is most useful for finding it, later. So this is the start of the USB HDD list.

no point.All HDDs should work if they are formatted to FAT.

I would have thought the same about USB flash drives but my 512 mb Apacer does hang up the mouse in X.

However, if you say all hdds work, that's really good news.

I had the same problem with a couple of USB flash drives. A workaround is to boot with them already plugged in - then they'll be available under /USB/USB_1 and won't bork your mouse, either (pad or external). If you remove it and try to replace it, it'll probably hang your mouse again.  :(   C'est la vie !

Actually FAT (fat16) can only recognize up to 2 gig.

Anyway, 3MX rc1.1 and the upcoming rc2.1 already have support for drives formatted for ntfs and ext2 also. So you aren't limited to just fat/fat32.

I'm pretty sure you'd have at the very least read access, and almost certainly write access. I don't think it'd handle compressed ext3 volumes, but then I don't think that's entirely standards-compliant anyhow.

Definitely an experiment worth trying, though.

So far ive yet to find a usb external harddisk that will work on my elonex one T so far every usb flashdrive ive tried has worked even my 32gig Iornkey works ok ...

Has anyone tried the Maplin USB 2.0 to IDE Adaptor (A25AT) to connect HDDs and CDs to the CnM?
- it works on the Acer Aspire One under Linux
