Alpha 400 issue
« on: March 06, 2009, 07:41:34 PM »
Hello, i've found out that elonex and belco alpha 400 are kinda the same thing, i'm wondering if the users can help me bypass oane big issue.

The os won't boot anymore

The penguin appears, the cursor in the top left appears, flickers twice then disappears into black nothingness.

what is the problem?

I tried:
holding the power button and reset button -> fail
reseting then booting -> fail
power up press f3 -> fail

this is a stubborn little linux laptop i'll tell you that

can anybody help, have you encountered this problem before?

This Is The CNM MBR (Master Boot Record)
http://194.150.201.35/cnmlifestyle/downloads/kernel.htm

also u can try the CNM Distro
http://194.150.201.35/cnmlifestyle/downloads/recoveryimage.htm

is it safe, can my laptop be damaged and if the new mbr doesn't work can i rollback to the one that worked?

I haven't heard of a case where anyone's laptop got damaged because of a different MBR .They are all the same laptop with the same specs.

it won't go past that screen even if i press f3
it idles with only the A led on. that was my problem, i have brand new mbr that acts the same way as the last one

i appreciate your help but it must be kharma or something cuz this little linux laptop is laughing at me.

Is this thread any use ?

they talk about recovery, i have done numerous recoveries untill this point it's just that it won't boot past 2 flicker of cursor in the top left and then idle with the "A" led on. that's the problem, is my english that bad?

let me describe:

i press the power button, the boot screen appears, (now cnmlifestyle v70), then in the top left corner the cursor blips 2 times, it dissapears and only the A LED is on, i left it over night wishing it would boot, no luck, i can't even power up and enter recovery because it hangs after 2 blips of cursor in top left corner, it must be broken or i'm a complete idiot.

didn't have a battery problem before, battery led is working and everything, i'm trying now to completly deplete the battery so that it might reset the bios or something, cuz i can't access it i don't know what is wrong, no message nothing, who ever designed it didn't think much, how can you offer a laptop with no debugging feature what so ever?

you just guess what's wrong with it :)) real smart :))

i'd take it back but there is no tech support in Romania :)) (and yes, that is a country)

so i have to become little linux laptop wizard over night, i'm that close to opening it up and shooting it :))
