g-banjo,firefox DOES take awhile to launch. About 30 seconds or so. Remember these are cheap low powered machines that actually only run at 335mhz (not 400). Run firefox on an old 300mhz pentium and tell me it starts any faster.  :P

Here's a tip. Click the memory/uptime docklet, it will change to display cpu load. This way you can watch the cpu spike when a large application is loading.

To kill a process i'd suggest using htop (process mananger) found in the utilities folder as its much easier than typing commands.

Monoreille, as davemoore mentioned. Menu-> Settings-> Activate 3G Driver

Thanks Wicknix, it's looking good. Now I'm off to the airport to check it out on a ten day tour of Australia. Bring on the summer!  ;D

OK folks a little more on the CUPS not working problem! In MX (all versions) the CUPS printer config interface runs up to the first page (either by the button or by http://127.0.0.1:631) but wont select any other pages. In a late night chat to oldbloke it suddenly occured to me that something permissionsy was going on so did some debugging and lo CUPS wont allow ANY of the pages to run and logs (in verbose mode) Permission Denied status 22 (which seems to mean...permission denied - surprise surprise) Now CUPS uses a group lpadmin which didn't exist so I created it (not hard - one line in the groups file!) and added the users user and root. Did that change anything? did it £&*%$£ it removed the error re lpadmin not existing but the permission denied error still exists. I am now oficially stuck - any help gratefully received!!

Dave,
That is sounding more promising.
I'm not gonna be any help 'cos I'm a real nonce with Linux, but I'm sure the "community" will come up with the answer  :)

Dunno about needing to be the same size... you can simply replace the file ... i have done it before on RC1, and from what i remember it fit perfectly...
"Wow baby i was booorn! With a fast fuuuuse!"
"I wanna go fast!"
"Tango With Added Tango... You've been Tango'd!"

This has been my first experiance with linux, the LLL. Now i have installed it on the laptop that came with M$.!

Hi,

Anyone had any luck with CUPS yet?

Also, when playing around with LLL (as y'do) I tried to get the webserver running.
Placed an index.html file of my own in /etc/mini-httpd, started the web server from the menu, fired up a laptop with Ubuntu804 installed and tried to access the LLL using it's IP address on our network.
I get a "connection refused" error screen returned.....damn!
I can see the index page if I use the LLL and access it using localhost (127.0.0.1)
I have tried putting the LLL in a DMZ on the router but this does not work either  :'(
What am I doing wrong?

Everybody sets up their networks differently. The only thing i could suggest is to set your router to allow 'port forwarding' on port 80.

For cups if you're willing to to do a little testing, try this just for the heck of it. Install the Printer.xap which i believe is on the cnm website? Maybe something i added to rc1.x and 2.x overwrote something. My thinking is that installing the original printer software might just fix it. Its worth a shot.

Cheers.

Wicknix,
Thanks for the reply.
Unfortunately installing the CnM Printer.xap had no effect on CUPS at all  :(
I know Davemoore was looking at the problem, and I just wondered if any progress had been made.
He seemed to think it was a permissions/privileges issue.

Also, still no luck with the web server on the LLL.
I have, previously, configured the LLL's IP address as a DMZ within the router, and port-forwarding. None of which work.
It's no biggy, just me playing around with things  ;)

Webserver on LLL

in /etc/mini-httpd.conf the host to which mini_httpd should bind is set as:

host=127.0.0.1

if you comment out this line mini_httpd reverts to it's default, which is to bind to all hostnames supported on the local machine. Restart the webserver and  you should then be able to access the LLL on it's network IP address, as well as localhost / 127.0.0.1
