3mx-1.1 (aka Mx1.1) Bugs Thread
« on: March 01, 2009, 07:33:55 AM »
First off, if you Think you have a bug, log on to the chat room #littlelinuxlaptop on irc.freenode.net to see if it is actually a bug.

Secondly, as this is the last release now, wick is not obliged to make new patches because mx2.1 is now the priority. Until other mx2 bugs are fixed however a few people will remain on mx1.1 to offer help.

Finally, check the help file, because as wick said, its there for a reason.

Now then for my idea....

We should have a standard bugs form that should be used. It would make prioritising what issues are needing a fix and what issues are for a future release easier. So when submitting a bug copy and paste the following in to your post

VERSION OF MX:
MAKE OF LAPTOP:
DATE OF LAPTOP:
BRIEF DISCRIPTION OF WHAT WENT WRONG:
HAVE YOU FIDDELED WITH THE TERMINAL OR OS?
OTHER DETAILS THAT MAY HELP US:
"Wow baby i was booorn! With a fast fuuuuse!"
"I wanna go fast!"
"Tango With Added Tango... You've been Tango'd!"

This has been my first experiance with linux, the LLL. Now i have installed it on the laptop that came with M$.!

If your sounds in pidgin and xchat dont seem to work here is a quick easy fix. Open their options/preferences, go to sounds, and change esdplay to esdplay.old. On restart their sounds will now work.

TIP: If the options/prefs window is too big for the screen you can move it up/down/left/right by using ' alt+left click ' and drag the window around.

Also Video Online not working isn't a bug. I just included an old version so i could make a menu entry for it. It was installed via the software installer, so all you have to do is remove it, then follow the video online thread, download the proper files and patched linvideos binary. I cant legally include 'cracked' software.

Cheers.

OK, here goes!
I know nothing of chat on irc, so here I am  :-[

VERSION OF MX: MX1.1,  ELX-V07 loader
MAKE OF LAPTOP: OneT+
DATE OF LAPTOP: circa Aug.2008 i.e. one of the early ones
BRIEF DISCRIPTION OF WHAT WENT WRONG: Printer Manager won't start, brief flash of CPU activity, then nothing
HAVE YOU FIDDLED WITH THE TERMINAL OR OS? Not prior to this problem, i.e. it didn't start after first BOOT.
OTHER DETAILS THAT MAY HELP US: I had, in the past, successfully configured my printer with the default Elonex OS. When I do a recovery I always use the format partition option, thus no data is retained

Any help appreciated.

Martin

Save and reboot. :D

Matt,
Thanks for the prompt reply (and apologies for the brief xChat last evening....I've found my PSU now  ::) )

This brings up the CUPS home-page OK now, but I cannot access any other "page" when trying to add our printer, or anything else for that matter  :(
I've taken a peek in /share/cups/ and, for instance, the add-printer.tmpl template is there (if that means much!)
So now I'm stumped again  :-[

Martin

PS: I've also noticed that the ctrl+alt+1 - 3 screen brightness does not work on my OneT+........no biggy!

[edit] I going to re-flash with the Elonex OS and try CUPS again with that....watch this space [/edit]

OK.
Re-flashed with Elonex current OS and successfully configured printer using Printer Manager (CUPS)
That is a printer on our network, connected to my router.
Printed test page OK from within CUPS using WiFi.

BUT, for the life of me I do not know why Abiword or Firefox etc. do not see that printer  >:(
Any ideas anyone.

So it's back to MX1.1 and try my luck again.

Monoreille, it could be the drivers... You have mx1.1 so download the drivers and install them using the Software Installer. But apart from that, it could be the settings for france? i dont know to be honest because i have a wifi router. Never used anything else for the internet.

G-banjo, might be a bad refurb... have you tried a reflash? do that and be sure to reformat the drive. The File manager reporting 2gb size on everything is wierd... :-\. As for Fire Fox are you allowing enough time? i often think that nothing is happening and open two versions of FF, have the message saying FF is already up, press ok and a few moments later it loads...
"Wow baby i was booorn! With a fast fuuuuse!"
"I wanna go fast!"
"Tango With Added Tango... You've been Tango'd!"

This has been my first experiance with linux, the LLL. Now i have installed it on the laptop that came with M$.!

CnM life style drivers should work with your system because it is the same.   :-\

MX 1.1 should have all the drivers because wick installed them from what i can remember... its worth a try but if it doesnt then i will ask wick about whats wrong.

Monoreille, your problem is that MX 1 (and 1.1 and 2) do not autodect the usb 3G modem. In 1.1. there is no a short cut on the menu to "detect" the 3G USB modem or from the run prompt type huawei_e220_active which will detect it (if its pluggedin!) and bring up the "dialer"

The file manager reported sizes correctly on the standard OS.
Perhaps I was too impatient with Firefox, but it does seem to take a VERY long time.
How do you kill a process?
