OS Version: ELX-V07 + extras
Ubuntu: user since May 2008.
Windows:  user/programmer since the dawn of time. :)

Hi I love the look and feel. However, I have discovered a few issues which may just be me or might be more common?
(1) Firefox is very slow even after the initial "build" although it looks great!
(2) Desktop icons are slow and often totally unresponsive (even when right clicked and told to execute!)
(3) Wireless is far more hit and miss with it often not finding my AP or not attaching to it
(4) There is no autohide for the toolbar
(5) No right click config for toolbar options (presume connected to 4?)
(5)There is no restart option
(6) As already explained theer is no installer at the moment (more a "feature" than a bug?)
(7) The 3G issues i talked about in previous threads will now not work at all even with the "fix" I discovered

You are right, i changed the /share/applications firefox icon, but not the desktop one. Just edit /root/Desktop/firefox.desktop file to say exec=/opt/firefox/bin/firefox

The wireless setting/connection/wifi stumbler all work just fine on mine from both desktop and menu. If you cant see the whole application use the 'maximize' button to make it fit the screen.  ::)

I already mentioned that vlc may not be the best answer for a media player just yet.

Firefox 3 is much larger than firefox 2, but it IS needed for access to lots of webmail, internet banks etc. This is only a 335mhz machine after all. Cant expect much. Use dillo for general web browsing if you want fast. :)

Its not that the desktop icons are slow, its that the apps loading take awhile. Watch the green cpu meter on taskbar.

Wireless has always been a 'hit or miss' issue for these machines. The underlying system and drivers is no different from the default OS, as i built this upon the default OS. Not much i can do about it.

The taskbar never had a 'right click config'. JWM doesnt have that ability.

To auto hide the taskbar just edit /etc/jwm/jwmrc line 110 and change autohide="false" to autohide="true" and reboot.

2 reasons for no software installer. After upgrading gtk and a bunch of other libraries it crashed when selecting a file. Second reason is it's 'online update' was breaking/downgrading packages in rc1 and i didn't want that happening in rc2 so i never tried to fix it.

The 3G issue again i cant test it as i don't live overseas. The default kernel didn't come with the needed drivers for us over in America to use with our 3g modems or cell phones. :(

If you REALLY need to install packages in rc2, there is still a way to do so. You just wont be able to uninstall them. Just copy the .xap (.info not needed) to the root of the system ( / ) using mc (you'll know your in the right directory when you see all the system folders and the flash_eraseall file). Then extract the package by using this command ' tar xvf example-package.xap '. Thats it. Package installed. Now delete the .xap file from the / directory.

Cheers.

Thanks again Wicknix for all the work you've put in and how it all looks, like davemoore says. I agree with his bugs too, especially lack of wifi connectivity - I can't connect at all, using either WEP or WPA (WPA2 I used seamlessly with rc1 and the original and never had a miss with it connecting). It actually looks like the 1T is not polling the wifi router....

Why don't you Upload it to another Filesharing Site?

Maybe even share via bittorrent!!

firefox is really slow , can you maybe bring a patch out which gets bon echo back?
but the rest is brilliant :) & video online finally seems to work but when i press a movie its shuts down. :(ps: maybe a option to put Lbreakout in the new version of the distro or in a patch :)
http://lgames.sourceforge.net/index.php?project=LBreakout2
in the torrent program you cant ad a torrent file cause the screen is to small for the window and you cant maximise / minimise it so you cant press OK or something ,

If firefox is too slow use dillo instead. Its lightning fast, it just cant access secure websites/webmail, which is why firefox is there, for webmail/online banking and 'power' browsing. Dillo is great for reading forums and general lightweight browsing.

I tried to get lbreakout2 awhile back to work but it froze the system :(

The torrent window and file selector is fine. Works for a bunch of people. You do realize you can click and drag the app windows around by click n dragging the window border, just like in windows right? You can also right click 'on' the window border to access an optional menu with minimize/maximize etc.

Cheers.

Wicknix,
Totally understand re inability to check whether 3G works or not - just wondered whether you could give me some idea of what might have changed in this area between rc1 and 2? The error screen i get carries the message:Wireless Modem Detect - The device of USB modem was not found, Couldn't connect. As I say I used to get round this in rc1 by running the file huawei_e220_active (huawei is the make of the 3G modem) but this now doesnt work and returns: 4set feature request returned 0 Prepnute-OK, Mas ttyUSB0 ttyUSB1 (cez usbserial vendor=0x12d1 product=0x1003) pozri /proc/bus/usb/devices
Any help you can give would be great!

davemoore,

I'll look into it, though nothing *should* have changed. I just upgraded some packages mainly. The underlying system wasn't touched. Odd, very odd indeed.

Cheers.

i got a big issue here.
Almost every program sometimes suddenly quits.
It looks like when the cpu usage gets too high the program quist , this happened with : video online (when starting a movie) , torrent program (when going to settings sometimes) and some other programs.
Wicknix you got any idea why this happenes?
THNX!

Hi Wicknix
Thanks for having a look - a bit of digging and intensive google searching reveals the 2 files in /proc/bus/usb/devices called devices and drivers are BOTH of zero bytes - this according to variouys google searches is an issue but I can't tell why - so something but not much!

Just realized X-Chat irc is broken, it loads up then crashes as soon as you start typing.  :'(

For now you can use pidgin (sky chat) or bitchx (console client) until i resolve that.

Cheers.
