Thanks for that explanation Wicknix and understand the problem from past comments too. I'll leave as is for now as I prefer, like yourself, to have desktop icons off! But initially just thought I'd mention the problem....

This really is awesome! Such huge strides being made so quickly! Ta!

Having a flag that retains your choice in regards to desktop icons would be very useful.
As would the ability to use workgroups for networking, which is one of the things I was saddened about when I first started using the LLL.

Hi all
Just in case anyone is having the same problems as me with 3G connectivity (see earlier) I discovered that by running the script (?) /bin/huawei_e220_active several times it would (eventually) detect my 3G modem and work as normal - have to do this after every reboot though - hope that helps as a temp fix and poss a pointer to the fault? Also my other problem was with vnc and not being able to input the the password? (no text bar in password box) If I have a 2nd app open at the same time in an adjacent window by simply clicking into it and then  back into the vnc password window I can then enter a password. Yet again another partial fix which might hopefully point the way?

OK a little annoyance discovered this evening  ???

Open "My Documents"
Move "up" a level
"right-click" on a folder and choose "Properties"

"My Documents" window closes and the desktop icons disappear!!
(They can be brought back with "enable icons")

Does your mileage differ?

First of all i want to thank wicknix for creating something really great for our LLL's  ;D

What i missed though were mount/unmount icons for SD/USB and WiFi.

It would be great if these could be implemented in the next version.

davemoore, thanks for the input. Being that i don't live overseas there was no way for me to test it. I guess as a quick fix you could just create a desktop icon that executes it.

oldbloke, yea known issue. Fixed in rc2.

ace, it wont happen. XiP created some oddballish toolbar/desktop and built some plugins/scripts that loaded those icons. They used part matchbox (not the full matchbox) and whatever they built. However it isn't needed in 3MX, as usb/sd auto mount and unmount without the need for icons. Wifi gets enabled by bringing with the 'standard' wifi utility, and shutting wifi down i havent found an easy way yet. You could always issue 'ifdown eth1' from xterm or reboot.

Wildheart Baby, that isn't possible with pcmanfm, it doesn't provide that feature.  :-\

Cheers.
