3MX Bugs thread
« on: February 14, 2009, 08:53:29 PM »
Post any bugs you've found with the excellent new distro by Wicknix.

So far we've discovered that it doesn't shut down it just restarts. (I had to hold down the power button)
Emmerick also discovered that enable deskicons didn't work when it re-started, I however didn't find this happening.

I discovered that it seems to stay in Fn (function mode) and that shift had taken over the role, though after switching off and re-starting it shift seems to be working but Fn isn't, oddly fn shift and the f keys, seemed to add an extra character.

Find under the file manager didn't seems to find anything even using *.* to denote everything

major bug; a lot of buttons dont regonise that you press shift or capslock .
for example you want an uppercase a you have to press capslock because shift doesnt work , when pressing shift and a you also get an lowercase a so you have to use capslock but for somebuttons capslock doesnt even work.
please fix that wicknix

sorry for bad englisch i am dutch.

I found the issue with shift but after I shutdown and tried later it worked properly.

I get the feeling some of the problems will resolve themselves and re-appear, with head scratching regularity.

I just uploaded a patch that will fix the power off / reboot issue. It will now power off. :D

The same patch *should* also fix the keymap issue. I had the same problem with the default OS so i figured it was something i had to live with. I made a change and stopped the system from loading xmodmap. Now it just defaults to the kernels built in keymap. So far 20 minutes and the keyboard hasn't flaked out yet. Need more testers to see if that actually solved the issue.

Install and reboot for changes to take effect.

EDIT: Removed the files as they are now obsolete as a new patch has replaced them. See "3MX updates" thread

Not sure what to say as i have over 400 gbc roms and the 15-20 i tried all worked fine. I'm obviously not going to test 400 roms. Maybe try grabbing them from some other rom sites. You might have corrupt or just flat out bad roms.

Also this is gameboy and gameboy color only, if you are trying to use gameboy advance games then no wonder they dont work. :)

My WIFI connections on my CnM MiniBook keeps saying "Invalid IP Address"

I have updated my Firmware and was able to Install the 3MX Recovery file without having to change its name!!

Ethernet works fine!!

Also.

I would like to run a UPnp Client, what would work on the LLL?

I can only reiterate what others have said regarding SHIFT and FN key functionality. I was trying to type a new URL into the setup.data file for ipradio, but couldn't get the colon symbol to work - it always came out as a semi-colon.

Also, it's a bit of a hassle seeing what's the bottom of an app's window. Would it be possible to introduce some kind of auto-hide on the task bar ?

But these quibbles aside, you've done a seriously impressive amount of work on this. Congrats !   8)

I guess I was a premature in reporting the keyboard bug. After the first reboot, the SHIFT and FN keys are working fine.  ::)

This is being typed on my Elonex:

!@#$%^&*()_-

Aha ! US key mappings on the shifted numbers. Also, \ lower left maps to < and | maps to >. The equivalents right-hand third row down are fine. [] and {} are fine. ' is OK, but @ gives you ". # maps to `, but ~ is still OK.

However, Num Lock works perfectly - 123456789*-+/.0

Nothing that can't be worked around, but I'll have a potter about to see if there's a solution.

Yeah the shift/fn thing is a pain to figure out. Only a reboot seems to fix it temporarily. My default alpha400 OS did it randomly.. the elonex OS did it randomly.. the trendtac OS did it randomly, xenium did it randomly.. every recovery image ive tried had the same issue sooner or later. I'm beginning to think kernel/hardware issue as if you plug in an external usb keyboard it works just fine and never has this problem.

I'll look into software keyboard applications as a quick fix to at least be able to use those keys/characters until me or somebody else figures out the reason behind this odd bug.

Or if anybody is good at making keymaps (i'm not) i could use one specifically for these mini keyboards. Then i could use the loadkeys command to load up a proper keymap and plop everything into a patch. Currently xmodmap only has a few keys in it, and the kernel is mapping the rest of the keys.

Dont know about the whole shut down thing but the keyboard still rejects the shift key which is rahter annoying becasue i amd doing html right now in IT.

other than that. the distro kicks ass. well worth the wait, moves like fluid. no mess, zero transitions, nice gui just need to put some more user friendly desktop or menu icons for the gb emulator so it runs  with out xterm and a gui for p2p and bt. oh and the volum bar on the task monitor can slide below zero on to the text. i apalud you wick. supurb
