OneT+ onboard sound
« on: September 08, 2008, 05:26:05 PM »
Hi,
I cannot get the onboard microphone to work.
It appears to record, in "Recorders" but when played back I just get a hiss!
Plugging in an external mic works fine.

Also, in "Sound Setup" I cannot "test" the alarm sound  (What's that used for anyway?)

Anyone any thoughts on the subject?

If you look at the small hole above the keyboard you will see down to the motherboard and that there is no microphone installed in the microphone hole.  >:(

WoW! Womble, you have good eyesight  ;)
But then as an "oldbloke" I guess mine is failing, but it looks like you are right  :-[
Funny that, 'cos the spec says it should have and the support guy I have just spoken to about other matters says his works fine.

Mine does not record either Unless I plug an external mike in.  Then it works fine - so I guess my microphone is missing too.
I also get the etst button greyed out - no idea why.

Andy,
I can hekp there.

Take the "tick" out of the "Automatic Volume (Rising)" box and the test button becomes alive. Doesn't seem to do much, but support tell me the alarm is for critical errors such as low battery (or Bettery  ::) ) Can't say as I've noticed any sound when the battery is criticallt low 'though!

Ah yes, for a device with an onboard dictionary (which is quite good) I dont understand the "Bettery"

anyone else noticed the space for the webcam behind the silver bit at the top of the screen?

Yep Barney, the webcam space nicely matches the missing microphone beneath it's hole  ;)

Is this a job for trading standards?!?!

Martin

As an aside (and I have posted this elsewhere with no answers) has anyone else installed the xGalaga game from the LittleLinuxLaptop site?
If so, does the game produce sound when playing? Ours does not, and my Grandson is bending my ear constantly!!
Any help woud be most welcome.

Oldbloke, do you reckon we'll ever see a ONEt with a webcam and microphone?
on the otherhand we could put one in by ourselves.... nah thats wishful thinking, I have no will to be fart arsing around with a soldering iron  :P

Barney,

I doubt, very much that we will see a webcam on the OneT+, but I would certainly be up for tinkering with a soldering iron if it were feasible. But then again I would be (very much) surprised if the little beast could cope with the resource demands of a webcam, let alone finding an application to run it.........but we can dream.
My wife and I use SKYPE a lot to keep in contact with friends and relatives abroad and it would be great to have that app on this little OneT+ so that the Grandchildren could have that opportunity.

there's no skype version for this processor, so even with a webcam, it wouldn't work, it's also about half the min specs for skype

Thanks WikiGuy,

I think I have seen those pics before.
But, as my original post asked; why is the mic not there when it is mentioned in the spec?

Any ideas as to a suitable mic if I chose to vandalise my OneT+
