VideoOnline
« on: November 29, 2008, 01:33:49 AM »
Hey.
so, the other day i bought a cnmbook.  On it, there was a piece of software called VideoOnline.
VideoOnline was a standalone program for viewing Youtube videos, it appeared in the internet tab of the desktop.
I did not realise at the time, that having this software was, in some manners, notable.  I installed the xenium linux, enjoyed it, but found it currently too unstable for my nerves.  (don't ctrl+s enough for instability)
So, i grabbed the CnmBook's recovery file off of the Cnmlifestyle website.  It installed.  And then I had no VideoOnline.
So, i hooped onto the page to grab it.  it was not there.
I hooped onto google to find it.  It appears not to exist.  The searches for cnmbook + youtube, or trendtac or elonex or anything and youtube reveals little but the result "does not work with youtube".
Now, I KNOW that you can play youtube on the cnmbook, with the videoonline software, because i have used it.  I watched a video of Neil Young playing Helpless at The Last Waltz while daddy was watching television.

There seems to be NO information available for this program; and it would seem that even here, nobody knows about it.  I saw a few people wondering about the VideoOnline update, but nobody knew what it was.

If there are any readers of this forum who actually have the file, and haven't realised that the rest of us don't (AN INNOCENT ENOUGH MANNER OF BEING, I WOULD SAY), could you see about getting the file upped?

--

As an aside, I don't know if there's any way of getting a xap&info pairing out of an installed file.  If there is, perhaps that knowledge could be shared here?  thx babe.
If someone shares the knowledge, and no one has the program, I will go back to Maplin and find out their returns policy, and trick them into taking this laptop for one with the videoonline software, and I'll get it on the net for you all.

xx

In the unlikely event of software problems you can do a   software reset   Ã¢â‚¬â€œ please press   Enter a few times at the black “Elonex” boot up screen and restart your machine.
If you have continued problems please do a factory hardware reset – using a paperclip please press (hear the click and hold for 10s) the reset button on the bottom of the laptop. The reset button is the small silver hole just below the sticker. Then restart your machine.

I had to 'unbrick' my Elonex yesterday and used the latest files from elonex support online...and it booted with VideoOnline on the desktop.

So does it really let you view YouTube vids without downloading first? (fingers crossed...)

Thanks for that, that we can now stream YouTube vids. I'm really nervous of doing a recovery as I've added so much, so so much more to re-install/go wrong. I wonder what the answer is for us mere mortals to be able to add this easily....  ::)

whenever you find a software or anything back up on SD card or externally somewhere in folders.Reinstalling the programs does not take long. 30 sec most of them.

There's a section on how to use VideoOnline in the downloadable PDF user manual on the CNM website - I feel a bit done-over that my MiniBook doesn't have the program, and I've asked CNM to include add it to the software section of their site.

Perhaps if all of us e-mail them the same request they may respond?

This is very good news. And does it mean that we can now watch flash9 stuff, as wasn't that the reason we couldn't watch youtube, because the 1T only has flash7?

Guess I better load it and find out! :)

EDIT: Downloaded the trial version OK just now (14.00hrs), but got a 404 when tried to d'load the ap- version .xap. Are others having problems?

Hi,no it does not mean you can watch sites those requires Flash9.
And having read the Dutch Trendtac hyves, they have the same problem ( http://trendtac.hyves.nl/forum/2577881/2jVq/YouTube_with_VideoOnline/)

I have downloaded the app and patch from the CnM site, and installed on my MiniBook, but whilst it connects to YouTube, any attempt to play a clip causes the player to start up, and then the App exits without any message :-(
