Memory & BIOS on One T +
« on: September 07, 2008, 01:17:58 PM »
I've got my One T +.  According to the file manager, the size is 1014MB, with 533.1MB spare (put a few photos on etc).  This suggests that it is not a partitioned 2GB unit.

Does anyone know how I can check this out properly before ringing Elonex?

Access to the BIOS might provide the answer - has anyone uncovered a way of doing this?

This is exactly what my mate and I want to know - we have the same readings as Jay yet we ordered a 2GB unit.... the way we reasoned it out is that the storage of the programs and files take up almost 1GB, but we'd like to know for sure!

David.

If the Onet only has a 1GB memory and the same software as the Onet+, then I would have expected the Onet+ with 2GB to be reporting more than 500MB-ish spare memory....got to be something amiss here?

The original spec page is still up at http://www.elonexone.co.uk/onet.html - memory is the only thing that distinguishes between the two units.  Does anyone have a OneT?  If so, what spare memory is that reporting?

No, its correct.

The file manager is only reporting user files, not OS files.

To see the true storage usage, open the xterm and type 'df' - thory and belowis will give you a reading of all the partitions.

If you type 'du' you will get a list of  all the files in the directory, and any directories below it.

To get the values in megabyte blocks, type df -m or du -m

Cheers, that answers it, and it even showed my SD card correctly  :)

Didn't quite get the thory and belowis bits you mentioned - tried those but Xterm didn't seem to want to know....

Crylex is correct about the File Manager only reporting the users files. However if you open Extend/Extend_1 File Manager will show free space as 1020.5MB and Total 1024MB. The total OS is 400MB approx which is correct for a cut down Linux OS.

LOL

Still getting used to the small keyboard, and very sensitive mouse pad.

df is disk free

du is disk usage, the current directory and all files in the directories below this

Yes, as Jay says, BIOS access is vital. Anyone cracked that yet?
Maybe some of the BIOS settings can be accessed from the command line?

These mini laptops are based on a SoC, simply put all basic periferals are known.
As a result there is no need for BIOS settings.
The only thing left is the time and date for the real time clock.
