Open source MIPS

hiya - i'm a complete linux newbie & have just bought 3 CnM mini books for the kids xmas. I used to use a bit of SGI Irix a few years ago & it set me wondering as most of the SGI stuff I used was MIPS procs. Has anyone tried looking at http://oss.sgi.com/ for a MIPS compiled version of mozilla, firebird & thunderbird?

Not sure if it would run under the distro thats supplied with the minibooks, but could be worth a look.
