Wish list
« on: September 06, 2008, 05:17:47 PM »
Hi

Just received my onet+ - wifi works fine, but range is a little limited. I've downloaded the terminal, and that works fine.

There are a few deficiencies, so I thought I' post a wish list here, see if Elonex pay any attention

Flash version - it's supplied with 6 - we should be able to upgrade to 9 ourselves, or have it supplied with 9. Then we could play flash games!

Network browsing - I want to be able to read and write to my desktop computer, play my video and music collection from there.

A development emulator - those of us who want to experiment could do so on the emulator, and develop compile progs for the wider community.

Disc space available (though you can use df on the terminal)

ssh (there is telnet, and a telnet daemon)

ftp (already there)

vnc to remote control desktop

Any others?

Chris

  • I'd like to be able to listen to Shoutcast broadcasts but nothing on the Elonex recognises the .pls file extension
  • Also, to listen to particular radio stations around the world here:

http://archoslinks.weebly.com/canadian-radio.html

These feeds use the .mms file extension. My Archos 605wifi can do it....

Hi Chris (crylex),

I'm with you on Flash 9 and Networking (really want to access/read/transfer to from other machines) and would like to add....

A decent file manager (like DOpus  :o  on my PC)  )

Real Player so I can listen to BBC 5Live!!!

Password protected access to the whole file system (root) via the 'decent' file manager, yes I have CTRL-ALT-F3 but it's all greek to me when I get there - I'm a GUI person.

A simple 'click on the file to install' system - or is this the wonders of Linux  :o)
tars, bins, infos etc leave me cold.

Multi video codec player.

Thunderbird for this little machine, then I wouldn't have to separately ask for some kind of text newsgroup access tool.

Cheers

Kol

There is a VNC viewer available now. You can find the links and other apps in this thread:

http://trendtac.hyves.nl/forum/2288186/LPkJ/Extras_Apps/

Also, Midnight Commander seems to be a fairly decent file manager and got me out of a close scrape when I bricked.. :o

I'd like to see a C++/Sharp IDE with emulator. There is something at www.xiptech.com/download.htm - there are screenshots and some brief info but no prices etc + some other stuff (Ximulator)

Flash 8 esp for games is a major biggie as is streaming radio but my main bugbear is...

NETWORKING - apparently, the One+ has built-in software but there is no Samba client for mipsel-linux yet...

Getting my USB Bluetooth working would be nice too!

Cheers
Stephen

Hi Stephen

Got Midnight Commander which runs fine in xterm (with the added bonus of mouse support - yes, I really am a philistine!).

However, VNC doesn't appear to work, either I'm doing something wrong (very, very likely) or it just isn't playing. Says it either cannot connect or refuses connection, then it comes up with an application error when I click OK.

Same with PAN which I also downloaded, along with the required libs etc., when I launch it the same application error comes up and it refuses to load.

Don't forget that I am a complete and utter novice when it comes to anything Linux so maybe most of what I'm doing is completely wrong.....but I am enjoying myself so far :o)

Thanks for all the help so far people.

Cheers

Kol

I would not go searching for "Ximulator" on Google if you are in the office.

On the topic of wish list, I have the following:

- Gnash, this is the open source flash implementation,
- Updated versions of AbiWord, Gnumeric, firefox (possibly Seamonkey),
- Firefox plugin for xine (the media player). Having a look around there is real libraries for xine loaded on this thing.
- Educational software, cause this is how the original purpose for the laptop. Gcompris, TuxType to name a few.

Forgot one
-  a decent package management system (the likes of apt or rpm).
